Poland: nobility with problems

What has the FDP politician and Vice President of the German Bundestag, Hermann Otto Solms with Róża Thun, currently joint head of European Commission Representation in Poland? Answer: Both have a name in her passport, which is much longer than that in which they are known to the public.

In Hesse, where Solms takes up regularly in national elections on the national list for the Free Democrats, would have so many voters were taken aback when Kreuzchenmachen: The full name of the politician as he is on the ballot, is Hermann Otto Solms, Prince of Solms-Lich-chief. The name is a bit bulky and is therefore not used by Solms example his website too.

Róża tuna candidate this year in Poland in elections to the European Parliament for the Civic Platform (PO) . would be happy to do so even under that very name. But the Election Commission car is on full attribution, which in her case: Roza Maria Gräfin von Thun und Hohenstein.

Apart from the fact that they know the voters simply as Róża tuna is, does the born Woźniakowska that owes its surname husband Franz Graf von Thun und Hohenstein, has maternal but also noble ancestors to another concern: Because her name on the ballot was too long, it could be printed in smaller type.

One, however, assured Thun, prepare her not worry: that the German-sounding last name she could cast cost for voters with anti-German sentiment - even tuna sounds alone neither Polish nor in any other way Slav, but have you never had problems. Doch die Wahlbehörde beharrt auf ihrem Standpunkt, auch wenn Róża Thun geltend macht, 1998 schon einmal unter der Kurzform ihres Namens bei Wahlen angetreten zu sein.
